Footnotes
(a)13:13 Whoever fears being taught a lesson, but making such a mistake, will refrain from denouncing and turn away peacefully.(Conte)
(b)13:19 The desired of nations is Jesus Christ, the Messiah. The verse can also be understood more generally, referring to any good that is desired and perfected.(Conte)
(c)13:22 The subject of the sentence is ‘bonus’ and it lacks a separate word for ‘man’ (vir). The word ‘filios’ is masculine and refers to sons, but the word ‘nepotes’ is not masculine and refers to grandchildren. Since the word ‘vir’ is lacking and the word ‘nepotes’ is not specific to male descendents, the word filios is translated as children. An alternate translation is equally viable: ‘The good man leaves behind heirs: sons and grandsons.’(Conte)
