- Chapter 120 -

In my distress I cried out to the Lord

1
When I was distressed, I called out to Yahweh and he answered me.
2
I prayed, “Yahweh, rescue me from those who lie to me and try to deceive me!”
3
You people who lie to me, I will tell you what God will do to you and what he will do to punish you.
4
He will punish you when soldiers shoot sharp arrows at you; arrows that were hardened and made sharp over hot coals from the wood of a broom tree.
5
It is terrible for me, living among cruel people like those who live in the regions of Meshech or Kedar.
6
I have lived for a long time among people who hate to live with others peacefully.
7
Every time I talk about living together peacefully, they talk about starting a war.

In my distress I cried out to the Lord

1
In my distress, I cried to the LORD. He answered me.
2
Deliver my soul, LORD, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue.
3
What will be given to you, and what will be done more to you, you deceitful tongue?
4
Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper.
5
Woe is me, that I live in Meshech, that I dwell among the tents of Kedar!
6
My soul has had her dwelling too long with him who hates peace.
7
I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war.
