And the king stood by a pillar, and made a covenant before the Lord , to walk after the Lord , and to keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes with all their heart and all their soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people stood to the covenant.
And like unto him was there no king before him, that turned to the Lord with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; neither after him arose there any like him.
And they took away their cattle; of their camels fifty thousand, and of sheep two hundred and fifty thousand, and of asses two thousand, and of men an hundred thousand.(g) (h)

To confirm these days of Purim in their times appointed, according as Mordecai the Jew and Esther the queen had enjoined them, and as they had decreed for themselves and for their seed, the matters of the fastings and their cry.(m)
And Satan answered the Lord , and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life.
And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.(b)
Wherefore is light given to him that is in misery, and life unto the bitter in soul;
The things that my soul refused to touch are as my sorrowful meat.
What is my strength, that I should hope? and what is mine end, that I should prolong my life?
Therefore I will not refrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.
So that my soul chooseth strangling, and death rather than my life.(g)
Though I were perfect, yet would I not know my soul: I would despise my life.
My soul is weary of my life; I will leave my complaint upon myself; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.(a)
