- Kapitel 13 -

(2 Kings 23:4–20; 2 Chronicles 34:3–7)

And beholde, there came a man of God out of Iudah (by the commandement of the Lord) vnto Beth-el, and Ieroboam stoode by the altar to offer incense.

And he cryed against the altar by the comandement of the Lord, and said, O altar, altar, thus saith the Lord, Beholde, a child shalbe borne vnto the house of Dauid, Iosiah by name, and vpon thee shall he sacrifice the Priestes of the hie places that burne incense vpon thee, and they shall burne mens bones vpon thee.

And he gaue a signe the same time, saying, This is the signe, that the Lord hath spoken, Behold, the altar shall rent, and the ashes that are vpon it, shall fall out.

And when the King had heard the saying of the man of God, which he had cryed against the altar in Beth-el, Ieroboam stretched out his hand from the altar, saying, Lay holde on him: but his hande which he put foorth against him, dryed vp, and he could not pull it in againe to him.

The altar also claue asunder, and the ashes fell out from the altar, according to the signe, which the man of God had giuen by the commandement of the Lord.

Then the King answered, and saide vnto the man of God, I beseeche thee, pray vnto ye Lord thy God, and make intercession for me, that mine hand may bee restored vnto me. And the man of God besought the Lord, and the Kings hand was restored, and became as it was afore.

Then the King sayde vnto the man of God, Come home with mee, that thou mayest dyne, and I will giue thee a reward.

But the man of God saide vnto the King, If thou wouldest giue me halfe thine house, I would not goe in with thee, neither woulde I eate bread nor drinke water in this place.

For so was it charged mee by the worde of the Lord, saying, Eate no bread nor drinke water, nor turne againe by the same way that thou camest.

So he went another way and returned not by the way that he came to Beth-el.

The Old Prophet and the Man of God

And an olde Prophet dwelt in Beth-el, and his sonnes came and tolde him all ye woorkes, that the man of God had done that day in Beth-el, and the wordes which he had spoken vnto the King, tolde they their father.

And their father sayde vnto them, What way went he? and his sonnes shewed him what waye the man of God went, which came from Iudah.

And hee saide vnto his sonnes, Saddle mee the asse. Who sadled him the asse, and hee rode thereon,

And went after the man of God, and found him sitting vnder an oke: and he saide vnto him, Art thou the man of God that camest from Iudah? And he sayd, Yea.

Then he said vnto him, Come home with me, and eate bread.

But he answered, I may not returne with thee, nor go in with thee, neither wil I eate bread nor drinke water with thee in this place.

For it was charged me by the word of the Lord, saying, Thou shalt eate no bread, nor drinke water there, nor turne againe to goe by the way that thou wentest.

And he said vnto him, I am a Prophet also as thou art, and an Angel spake vnto me by the worde of the Lord, saying, Bring him againe with thee into thine house, that hee may eate bread and drinke water: but he lyed vnto him.

So he went againe with him, and did eate bread in his house, and dranke water.

And as they sate at the table, the worde of the Lord came vnto the Prophet, that brought him againe.

And hee cried vnto the man of God that came from Iudah, saying, Thus sayeth the Lord, Because thou hast disobeyed the mouth of the Lord, and hast not kept the commandement which the Lord thy God commanded thee,

But camest backe againe, and hast eaten bread and drunke water in the place (whereof he did say vnto thee, Thou shalt eate no bread nor drinke any water) thy carkeis shall not come vnto the sepulchre of thy fathers.

And when he had eaten bread and drunke, he sadled him the asse, to wit, to the Prophet whome he had brought againe.

And when hee was gone, a lion met him by the way, and slewe him, and his body was cast in the way, and the asse stoode thereby: the lion stood by the corps also.

And beholde, men that passed by, sawe the carkeis cast in the way, and the lion standing by the corps: and they came and tolde it in ye towne where the olde Prophet dwelt.

And when the Prophet that brought him backe againe from the waye, hearde thereof, hee sayde, It is the man of God, who hath bene disobedient vnto the commandement of the Lord: therefore the Lord hath deliuered him vnto the lion, which hath rent him and slayne him, according to the worde of the Lord, which hee spake vnto him.

And he spake to his sonnes, saying, Saddle me the asse. And they sadled him.

And he went and founde his body cast in the way, and the asse and the lion stoode by the corps: and the lion had not eaten the bodie, nor torne the asse.

And the Prophet tooke vp the body of the man of God, and layed it vpon the asse, and brought it againe, and the olde Prophet came to the citie, to lament and burie him.

And hee layed his bodie in his owne graue, and they lamented ouer him, saying, Alas, my brother.

And when he had buried him, hee spake to his sonnes, saying, When I am dead, burie ye mee also in the sepulchre, wherein the man of God is buried: lay my bones beside his bones.

For that thing which he cried by the word of the Lord against the altar that is in Beth-el, and against all the houses of the hie places, which are in the cities of Samaria, shall surely come to passe.

Howbeit after this, Ieroboam conuerted not from his wicked way, but turned againe, and made of the lowest of the people Priests of the hie places. Who would, might consecrate him selfe, and be of the Priestes of the hie places.

And this thing turned to sinne vnto the house of Ieroboam, euen to roote it out, and destroy it from the face of the earth.

Die Botschaft des Gottesmannes

(2. Könige 23,4-20; 2. Chronik 34,3-7)

Siehe, da kam von Juda ein Mann Gottes auf das Wort des Herrn nach Bethel, als Jeroboam an dem Altare stand und Weihrauch streute.

Und er verkündete gegen den Altar einen Ausspruch des Herrn und sprach: Altar, Altar! so spricht der Herr: Siehe, ein Sohn wird dem Hause David geboren werden, Josias mit Namen, dieser wird dir die Priester der Höhen schlachten, welche jetzt auf dir Weihrauch anzünden, und wird Menschengebeine auf dir verbrennen.

Und er gab an jenem Tage ein Zeichen und sprach: Das soll das Zeichen sein, dass der Herr gesprochen hat: Sehet, der Altar wird bersten und die Asche, welche auf demselben liegt, wird verstreut werden.

Als der König das Wort des Mannes Gottes hörte, das er gegen den Altar in Bethel ausgerufen, streckte er seine Hand vom Altare her aus und rief: Greifet ihn! Da erstarrte seine Hand, welche er gegen ihn ausgestreckt hatte, und er konnte sie nicht wieder an sich ziehen.

Der Altar aber barst und die Asche ward von dem Altare herabgestreut, dem Zeichen gemäß, das der Mann Gottes als Ausspruch Gottes vorherverkündet hatte.

Da sprach der König zu dem Manne Gottes: Flehe vor dem Angesichte des Herrn, deines Gottes, und bitte für mich, dass mir meine Hand wiederhergestellt werde. Als nun der Mann Gottes vor dem Angesichte des Herrn betete, ließ sich die Hand des Königs wieder an ihn ziehen und wurde, wie sie zuvor gewesen war.

Darauf sprach der König zu dem Manne Gottes: Komm mit mir in mein Haus, dass du essest, so will ich dir Geschenke geben.

Der Mann Gottes aber antwortete dem Könige: Wenn du mir die Hälfte deines Hauses gäbest, so würde ich nicht mit dir gehen und würde auch an diesem Orte nicht Brot essen nach Wasser trinken.

Denn so ist mir durch das Wort des Herrn befohlen worden, der gebot: Iss weder Brot noch trinke Wasser und kehre nicht auf dem Wege zurück, den du gekommen bist.

Deshalb zog er auf einem andern Wege fort und kehrte nicht auf dem Wege zurück, auf welchem er nach Bethel gekommen war.

Der Tod des Gottesmannes

Es wohnte aber in Bethel ein alter Prophet, zu diesem kamen seine Söhne und erzählten ihm alles, was der Mann Gottes an jenem Tage in Bethel getan hatte; und die Worte welche er zu dem Könige geredet, berichteten sie ihrem Vater.

Da sprach ihr Vater zu ihnen: Auf welchem Wege ist er von dannen gezogen? Seine Söhne zeigten ihm den Weg, auf dem der Mann Gottes, der von Juda gekommen, fortgezogen war.

Hierauf sprach er zu seinen Söhnen: Sattelt mir den Esel! Als sie ihn gesattelt hatten, bestieg er denselben

und zog dem Manne Gottes nach und fand ihn unter der Terebinthe sitzend und sprach zu ihm: Bist du der Mann Gottes, der aus Juda gekommen ist? Jener antwortete: Ich bin es!

Da sprach er zu ihm: Komm mit mir in mein Haus, dass du Brot essest.

Jener aber antwortete: Ich kann nicht umkehren und mit dir kommen und ich werde an diesem Orte weder Brot essen noch Wasser trinken,

denn der Herr hat zu mir durch sein Wort geredet und gesagt: Iss daselbst nicht Brot und trinke nicht Wasser und kehre nicht auf dem Wege zurück, auf dem du gekommen bist.

Da sprach er zu ihm: Auch ich bin ein Prophet wie du und ein Engel hat mir einen Ausspruch des Herrn verkündet und gesagt: Führe ihn mit dir zurück in dein Haus, dass er Brot esse und Wasser trinke. Und er täuschte ihn

und führte ihn mit sich zurück. So aß jener denn in seinem Hause Brot und trank Wasser.

Während sie nun zu Tische saßen, erging das Wort des Herrn an den Propheten, der ihn zurückgeholt hatte.

Da rief er dem Manne Gottes, der von Juda gekommen war, zu und sprach: So spricht der Herr: Weil du dem Ausspruche des Herrn nicht gehorsam gewesen bist und das Gebot, das der Herr, dein Gott, dir gegeben, nicht bewahrt hast

und zurückgekehrt bist und Brot gegessen und Wasser getrunken hast an dem Orte, an dem ich dir verboten habe, Brot zu essen und Wasser zu trinken, so soll dein Leichnam nicht in das Grab deiner Väter kommen!

Nachdem jener also gegessen und getrunken hatte, sattelte er dem Propheten, den er zurückgeholt hatte, dessen Esel.

Als dieser aber weggezogen war, traf ihn ein Löwe auf dem Wege und tötete ihn und sein Leichnam lag auf den Weg hingestreckt, der Esel aber blieb bei demselben stehen und der Löwe stand neben dem Leichname.

Und siehe, Männer, die vorüber gingen, sahen den Leichnam auf dem Wege hingestreckt und den Löwen bei dem Leichname stehend. Da kamen sie und machten es in der Stadt kundbar, in welcher jener alte Prophet wohnte.

Als der Prophet, der ihn vom Wege zurückgeholt hatte, das hörte, sprach er: Es ist der Mann Gottes, welcher dem Ausspruche des Herrn ungehorsam gewesen ist; der Herr hat ihn dem Löwen preisgegeben und dieser hat ihn zermalmt und getötet nach dem Worte des Herrn, das er zu ihm geredet.

Dann sprach er zu seinen Söhnen: Sattelt mir den Esel! Als diese ihn gesattelt hatten,

zog er fort und fand seinen Leichnam auf den Weg hingestreckt und den Esel und den Löwen bei dem Leichname stehen; der Löwe hatte von dem Leichnam nicht gefressen und den Esel nicht zerrissen.

Da hob der Prophet den Leichnam des Manne Gottes auf und legte ihn auf den Esel und kehrte zurück und brachte ihn in die Stadt des alten Propheten, um ihm die Trauerklage zu halten.

Und er legte dessen Leichnam in sein eigenes Grab und sie beklagten ihn: Ach, ach, mein Bruder!

Und als sie ihn beklagt hatten, sprach er zu seinen Söhnen: Wenn ich gestorben bin, so begrabet mich in dem Grabe, in dem der Mann Gottes begraben ist; neben seine Gebeine leget meine Gebeine.

denn wahrlich, die Voraussagung wird in Erfüllung gehen, welche er als Ausspruch des Herrn getan hat gegen den Altar, der zu Bethel ist, und gegen alle Tempel der Höhen, die in den Städten Samarias sind.

Aber auch nach diesen Ereignissen kehrte Jeroboam nicht von seinem schlimmen Wege um, sondern machte im Gegenteil Leute aus den Geringsten des Volkes zu Priestern auf den Höhen; wer nur wollte, dem füllte er die Hand und dieser ward ein Priester der Höhen.

Dies also war die Sünde des Hauses Jeroboams und deswegen ward es vernichtet und vertilgt vom Angesichte der Erde.
