- Kapitel 2 -

(Psalm 37:1–40)

Then the dayes of Dauid drewe neere that he should die, and hee charged Salomon his sonne, saying,

I go the way of all the earth: be strong therefore, and shew thy selfe a man,

And take heede to the charge of the Lord thy God, to walke in his wayes, and keepe his statutes, and his commandements, and his iudgements, and his testimonies, as it is written in the Law of Moses, that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest, and in euery thing whereunto thou turnest thee,

That the Lord may confirme his worde which hee spake vnto me, saying, If thy sonnes take heede to their way, that they walke before me in trueth, with all their hearts, and with all their soules, thou shalt not (sayd he) want one of thy posteritie vpon the throne of Israel.

Thou knowest also what Ioab the sonne of Zeruiah did to me, and what he did to the two captaines of the hostes of Israel, vnto Abner the sonne of Ner, and vnto Amasa the sonne of Iether: whome he slewe, and shed blood of battell in peace, and put the blood of warre vpon his girdle that was about his loynes, and in his shooes that were on his feete.

Doe therefore according to thy wisdome, and let thou not his hoare head go downe to the graue in peace.

But shew kindnes vnto the sonnes of Barzillai the Gileadite, and let them be among them that eate at thy table: for so they came to me when I fled from Absalom thy brother.

And beholde, with thee is Shimei the sonne of Gera, the sonne of Iemini, of Bahurim, which cursed mee with an horrible curse in the day when I went to Mahanaim: but hee came downe to meete me at Iorden, and I sware to him by the Lord, saying, I will not slay thee with the sword.

But thou shalt not count him innocent: for thou art a wise man, and knowest what thou oughtest to doe vnto him: therefore thou shalt cause his hoare head to goe downe to the graue with blood.

David’s Reign and Death

(1 Chronicles 29:26–30)

So Dauid slept with his fathers, and was buried in the citie of Dauid.

And the dayes which Dauid reigned vpon Israel, were fourtie yeeres: seuen yeeres reigned he in Hebron, and thirtie and three yeeres reigned he in Ierusalem.

Then sate Salomon vpon the throne of Dauid his father, and his kingdome was stablished mightily.

The Execution of Adonijah

And Adonijah the sonne of Haggith came to Bath-sheba the mother of Salomon: and she saide, Commest thou peaceably? And hee said, Yea.

He said moreouer, I haue a sute vnto thee. And she sayd, Say on.

Then he said, Thou knowest that the kingdome was mine, and that all Israel set their faces on me, that I should reigne: howbeit the kingdome is turned away, and is my brothers: for it came to him by the Lord.

Nowe therefore I aske thee one request, refuse me not. And she said vnto him, Say on.

And he sayd, Speake, I pray thee, vnto Salomon ye King, (for he will not say thee nay) that he giue me Abishag the Shunammite to wife.

And Bath-sheba sayd, Well, I will speake for thee vnto the King.

Bath-sheba therefore went vnto King Salomon, to speake vnto him for Adonijah: and the King rose to meete her, and bowed himselfe vnto her, and sate downe on his throne: and he caused a seate to be set for the Kings mother, and she sate at his right hand.

Then she sayd, I desire a small request of thee, say me not nay. Then the King sayde vnto her, Aske on, my mother: for I will not say thee nay.

She sayd then, Let Abishag the Shunammite be giuen to Adonijah thy brother to wife.

But King Salomon answered and sayd vnto his mother, And why doest thou aske Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? aske for him the kingdome also: for he is mine elder brother, and hath for him both Abiathar the Priest, and Ioab the sonne of Zeruiah.

Then King Salomon sware by the Lord, saying, God doe so to me and more also, if Adoniiah hath not spoken this worde against his owne life.

Now therefore as ye Lord liueth, who hath established me, and set me on the throne of Dauid my father, who also hath made me an house, as he promised, Adoniiah shall surely die this day.

And King Salomon sent by the hand of Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada, and hee smote him that he dyed.

Then the King sayd vnto Abiathar the Priest, Go to Anathoth vnto thine owne fieldes: for thou art worthy of death: but I will not this day kill thee, because thou barest the Arke of the Lord God before Dauid my father, and because thou hast suffered in all, wherein my father hath bene afflicted.

So Salomon cast out Abiathar from being Priest vnto the Lord, that he might fulfill the wordes of the Lord, which he spake against the house of Eli in Shiloh.

The Execution of Joab

Then tidings came to Ioab: (for Ioab had turned after Adoniiah, but he turned not after Absalom) and Ioab fled vnto the Tabernacle of the Lord, and caught hold on the hornes of the altar.

And it was tolde king Salomon, that Ioab was fled vnto the Tabernacle of the Lord, and beholde, he is by the altar. Then Salomon sent Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada, saying, Goe, fall vpon him.

And Benaiah came to the Tabernacle of the Lord, and sayd vnto him, Thus sayth the King, Come out. And he sayde, Nay, but I will die here. Then Benaiah brought the King worde againe, saying, Thus sayd Ioab, and thus he answered me.

And the King sayde vnto him, Doe as he hath sayd, and smite him, and bury him, that thou mayest take away the blood, which Ioab shed causelesse, from me and from the house of my father.

And the Lord shall bring his blood vpon his owne head: for he smote two men more righteous and better then he, and slew them with the sword, and my father Dauid knew not: to wit, Abner the sonne of Ner, captaine of the hoste of Israel, and Amasa the sonne of Iether captaine of the hoste of Iudah.

Their blood shall therefore returne vpon the head of Ioab, and on the head of his seede for euer: but vpon Dauid, and vpon his seede, and vpon his house, and vpon his throne shall there be peace for euer from the Lord.

So Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada went vp, and smote him, and slewe him, and he was buryed in his owne house in the wildernesse.

And the King put Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada in his roume ouer the hoste: and the King set Zadok the Priest in the roume of Abiathar.

The Execution of Shimei

Afterwarde the King sent, and called Shimei, and sayde vnto him, Buylde thee an house in Ierusalem, and dwell there, and depart not thence any whither.

For that day that thou goest out, and passest ouer the riuer of Kidron, knowe assuredly, that thou shalt dye the death: thy blood shall be vpon thine owne head.

And Shimei sayd vnto the King, The thing is good: as my lord the King hath sayd, so wil thy seruant doe. So Shimei dwelt in Ierusalem many dayes.

And after three yeres two of the seruants of Shimei fled away vnto Achish sonne of Maachah King of Gath: and they tolde Shimei, saying, Behold, thy seruants be in Gath.

And Shimei arose, and sadled his asse, and went to Gath to Achish, to seeke his seruantes: and Shimei went, and brought his seruants from Gath.

And it was tolde Salomon, that Shimei had gone from Ierusalem to Gath, and was come againe.

And the King sent and called Shimei, and sayde vnto him, Did I not make thee to sweare by the Lord, and protested vnto thee, saying, That day that thou goest out, and walkest any whither, knowe assuredly that thou shalt dye the death? And thou saydest vnto mee, The thing is good, that I haue heard.

Why then hast thou not kept the othe of the Lord, and the commandement wherewith I charged thee?

The King sayde also to Shimei, Thou knowest all the wickednes whereunto thine heart is priuie, that thou diddest to Dauid my father: the Lord therefore shall bring thy wickednesse vpon thine owne head.

And let King Salomon be blessed, and the throne of Dauid stablished before the Lord for euer.

So the King comanded Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada: who went out and smote him that he dyed. And the kingdome was established in the hand of Salomon.

Davids Anweisungen an Salomo

(Psalm 37,1-40)

Als aber die Tage herbei kamen, dass David sterben sollte, gebot er seinem Sohne Salomon und sprach:

Ich gehe den Weg aller Welt, sei stark und zeige dich als Mann

und habe acht auf das, was der Herr, dein Gott, zu beobachten geboten hat, dass Satzungen, Gebote und Rechte und Zeugnisse beobachtest, wie im Gesetze Moses geschrieben steht, auf dass du weise seiest in allem, was du tust, und überall, wohin du dich wendest:

damit der Herr seine Verheißung bestätige, welche er mir gegeben, da er sagte: Wenn deine Söhne auf ihre Wege acht haben und vor mir in Wahrheit wandeln, von ganzem Herzen und von ganzer Seele, so soll es dir nimmer an einem männlichen Nachkommen auf dem Throne Israels gebrechen.

Du weißt ferner, was mir Joab, der Sohn Sarvias, getan, was er den zwei Heerführern Israels, Abner, dem Sohne Ners, und Amasa, den Sohne Jethers, getan hat, da er sie tötete und Blut des Krieges im Frieden vergoss und mit Blut des Kampfes seinen Gürtel befleckte, der um seine Lenden war, und seine Schuhe, die er an seinen Füßen trug.

So handle also nach deiner Weisheit und lass seine grauen Haare nicht in Frieden in das Totenreich hinabsteigen.

Hingegen den Söhnen Berzellais, des Galaaditers, erweise Huld und lass sie an deinem Tische essen, denn sie kamen mir entgegen, als ich vor deinem Bruder Absalom floh.

Auch hast du Semei, den Sohn Geras, des Benjamiten von Bahurim, bei dir, der mich mit schlimmer Lästerung verwünschte, als ich nach der Lagerstadt zog; aber weil er mir entgegen kam, als ich über den Jordan zog, und ich ihm bei dem Herrn geschworen und gesagt habe: Ich will dich nicht mit dem Schwerte töten,

so lasse du doch nicht zu, dass er ungestraft bleibe. Du bist ein weiser Mann und weißt, was du ihm tun musst, und wirst seine grauen Haare mit Blut in das Totenreich kommen lassen.

Der Tod Davids

(1. Chronik 29,26-30)

David also entschlief zu seinen Vätern und ward in der Stadt Davids begraben.

Die Zeit aber, welche David über Israel herrschte, sind vierzig Jahre, in Hebron herrschte er sieben Jahre, in Jerusalem dreiunddreißig.

Salomon aber saß auf dem Throne seines Vaters David und sein Königtum ward sehr fest begründet.

Salomo exekutiert Adonia

Da begab sich Adonias, der Sohn der Haggith, zu Bethsabee, der Mutter Salomons. Sie sprach zu ihm: Ist dein Eintritt friedebedeutend? Er antwortete: Ja!

Und er fügte hinzu: Ich habe mit dir etwas zu reden. Sie sprach zu ihm: So rede! Jener sprach:

Du weißt, dass das Königtum mein war und ganz Israel mich zum König über sich aufgestellt hatte; aber nun ist das Königtum mir genommen und meinem Bruder zugefallen, denn ihm ist es von dem Herrn bestimmt.

Nun habe ich eine einzige Bitte an dich, beschäme mein Angesicht nicht! Sie sprach zu ihm: Rede!

Da erwiderte er: Ich bitte, sprich doch mit dem Könige Salomon, (denn dir kann er nichts abschlagen) dass er mir Abisag, die Sunamitin, zum Weibe gebe.

Bethsabee sprach: Wohl, ich will für dich zum Könige reden.

Als nun Bethsabee zu dem Könige Salomon kam, um für Adonias mit ihm zu reden, stand der König auf und ging ihr entgegen, verneigte sich vor ihr und setzte sich auf seinen Thron; auch für die Mutter des Königs ward ein Thron hingestellt und sie setzte sich zu seiner Rechten.

Alsdann sprach sie zu ihm: Ich habe eine kleine Bitte an dich zu stellen, beschäme mein Angesicht nicht! Da sprach der König zu ihr: Bitte, meine Mutter! Denn es ziemt sich nicht, dass ich dein Angesicht zurückweise.

Sie sprach: Lass deinem Bruder Adonias die Sunamitin Abisag zum Weibe geben.

Da antwortete der König Salomon und sprach zu seiner Mutter: Warum verlangst du die Sunamitin Abisag für Adonias? Verlange auch das Königtum für ihn! Er ist ja mein älterer Bruder und auf seiner Seite steht der Priester Abiathar und Joab, der Sohn Sarvias.

Und der König Salomon schwur bei dem Herrn und sprach: Gott tue mir dies und das, Adonias hat dies Verlangen gegen sein Leben gestellt!

So wahr der Herr lebt, der mich bestätigt und mich auf den Thron meines Vaters Davids gesetzt hat, und der mir ein Haus gebaut, wie er gesprochen hat, noch heute soll Adonias getötet werden!

Und der König Salomon sandte Banajas, den Sohn Jojadas, hin, der jenen tötete, und er starb.

Abjathar verbannt, Joab hingerichtet

Zu dem Priester Abiathar aber sprach der König: Gehe nach Anathoth auf dein Besitztum, denn du bist ein Mann des Todes; aber heute will ich dich nicht töten, weil du die Lade Gottes, des Herrn, vor meinem Vater David getragen und alle Mühsal, die mein Vater erduldet hat, mit ihm ertragen hast.

So verstieß Salomon den Abiathar, dass er nicht mehr Priester des Herrn war, damit das Wort des Herrn erfüllt würde, welches er zu Silo über das Haus Helis gesprochen hatte.

Als aber die Nachricht davon zu Joab kam, - denn Joab war Adonias gefolgt und war nicht auf die Seite Salomons getreten, - floh Joab in das Zelt des Herrn und erfasste das Horn des Altars.

Da nun dem Könige Salomon berichtet ward, dass Joab in das Zelt des Herrn geflohen und bei dem Altare sei, sandte Salomon Banajas, den Sohn Jojadas, und sprach: Gehe hin, töte ihn!

Banajas kam zum Zelte des Herrn und sprach zu jenem: So spricht der König: Komm heraus! Er aber antwortete: Ich komme nicht heraus, sondern hier will ich sterben. Da meldete Banajas dem Könige diese Worte und sprach: So hat Joab gesprochen und so hat er mir geantwortet.

Der König sprach zu ihm: Tue wie er gesagt hat; töte ihn und begrabe ihn, so wirst du das unschuldige Blut, welches Joab vergossen hat, von mir und von dem Hause meines Vaters entfernen.

Und der Herr wird sein Blut auf sein Haupt zurückfallen lassen, weil er zwei gerechte Männer getötet hat, die besser waren als er, und weil er sie mit dem Schwerte gemordet hat, ohne dass mein Vater David es wusste, Abner den Sohn Ners, den Heerführer Israels, und Amasa, den Sohn Jethers, den Heerführer Judas.

So falle ihr Blut auf Joabs Haupt und auf das Haupt seiner Nachkommenschaft auf immer zurück, aber David und seiner Nachkommenschaft und seinem Hause und seinem Throne werde von dem Herrn immerdar Friede zu teil.

Da ging Banajas, der Sohn Jojadas, hin, griff ihn an und tötete ihn und er ward in seinem Hause in der Wüste begraben.

Und der König setzte Banajas, den Sohn Jojadas, an seiner Statt über das Heer und Sadok setzte er an Abiathars Statt zum Priester ein.

Schimei hingerichtet

Auch sandte der König hin, ließ Semei rufen und sprach zu ihm: Baue dir ein Haus in Jerusalem und wohne daselbst und gehe nicht von dort weg, hierhin oder dorthin.

An dem Tage aber, an dem du weggehst und den Bach Cedron überschreitest, wisse, musst du den Tod erleiden; dein Blut wird auf dein Haupt kommen!

Semei antwortete dem Könige: Gut ist dies Wort! Wie mein Herr und König gesprochen hat, so wird dein Diener tun. So wohnte Semei in Jerusalem lange Zeit.

Nach drei Jahren aber begab es sich, dass Knechte Semeis zu Achis, dem Sohne Maachas, dem Könige von Geth, flohen, und es ward Semei berichtet, dass seine Knechte nach Geth gegangen seien.

Da machte sich Semei auf, sattelte seinen Esel und zog zu Achis nach Geth, um seine Knechte aufzusuchen, und brachte sie von Geth zurück.

Als Salomon berichtet ward, dass Semei von Jerusalem nach Geth gegangen und wieder zurückgekommen sei,

sandte er hin, ließ ihn rufen und sprach zu ihm: Habe ich dir nicht bei dem Herrn geschworen und dir vorhergesagt: An dem Tage, an dem du dahin oder dorthin fortgehst, wisse dies, musst du sterben? Und du hast mir geantwortet: Gut ist das Wort, welches ich gehört habe.

Warum hast du nun den Schwur bei dem Herrn und den Befehl, den ich dir gegeben, nicht gehalten?

Und der König sprach weiter zu Semei: Du kennst all das Böse, dessen dein Herz sich bewusst ist, dass du meinem Vater David angetan hast; nun lässt der Herr deine Bosheit auf dein Haupt zurückfallen.

Der König Salomon aber möge gesegnet sein und der Thron Davids feststehen vor dem Herrn in Ewigkeit.

Da gab der König Banajas, dem Sohne Jojadas, Befehl und dieser ging hinaus und schlug ihn, dass er starb.
