- Kapitel 3 -

(2 Chronicles 1:1–13; Psalm 45:1–17; Psalm 72:1–20)

Salomon then made affinitie with Pharaoh King of Egypt, and tooke Pharaohs daughter, and brought her into the citie of Dauid, vntill hee had made an ende of buylding his owne house, and the house of the Lord, and the wall of Ierusalem round about.

Only the people sacrificed in the hie places, because there was no house buylt vnto the name of the Lord, vntill those dayes.

And Salomon loued the Lord, walking in the ordinances of Dauid his father: onely he sacrificed and offred incense in the hie places.

And the King went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the chiefe hie place: a thousand burnt offrings did Salomon offer vpon that altar.

In Gibeon the Lord appeared to Salomon in a dreame by night: and God sayd, Aske what I shall giue thee.

And Salomon sayd, Thou hast shewed vnto thy seruant Dauid my father great mercie, when hee walked before thee in trueth, and in righteousnesse, and in vprightnes of heart with thee: and thou hast kept for him this great mercie, and hast giuen him a sonne, to sit on his throne, as appeareth this day.

And now, O Lord my God, thou hast made thy seruant King in steade of Dauid my father: and I am but a yong childe, and know not howe to go out and in.

And thy seruant is in the mids of thy people, which thou hast chosen, euen a great people which cannot be told nor nobred for multitude.

Giue therefore vnto thy seruant an vnderstanding heart, to iudge thy people, that I may discerne betweene good and bad: for who is able to iudge this thy mightie people?

And this pleased the Lord well, that Salomon had desired this thing.

And God sayde vnto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thy selfe long life, neyther hast asked riches for thy selfe, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies, but hast asked for thy selfe vnderstanding to heare iudgement,

Beholde, I haue done according to thy wordes: lo, I haue giuen thee a wise and an vnderstanding heart, so that there hath bene none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall arise the like vnto thee.

And I haue also giuen thee that, which thou hast not asked, both riches and honour, so that among the Kings there shall be none like vnto thee all thy dayes.

And if thou wilt walke in my wayes, to keepe mine ordinances and my commandements, as thy father Dauid did walke, I will prolong thy dayes.

And when Salomon awoke, behold, it was a dreame, and he came to Ierusalem, and stoode before the Arke of the couenant of the Lord, and offred burnt offrings and made peace offrings, and made a feast to all his seruants.

Solomon Judges Wisely

Then came two harlots vnto the King, and stoode before him.

And the one woman sayd, Oh my lorde, I and this woman dwell in one house, and I was deliuered of a childe with her in the house.

And the third day after that I was deliuered, this woman was deliuered also: and we were in the house together: no stranger was with vs in the house, saue we twaine.

And this womans sonne died in the night: for she ouerlay him.

And she rose at midnight, and tooke my sonne from my side, while thine handmaide slept, and layde him in her bosome, and layde her dead sonne in my bosome.

And when I rose in the morning to giue my sonne sucke, beholde, he was dead: and when I had well considered him in the morning, beholde, it was not my sonne, whom I had borne.

Then the other woman sayd, Nay, but my sonne liueth, and thy sonne is dead. Againe she sayde, No, but thy sonne is dead, and mine aliue: thus they spake before the King.

Then sayde the King, She sayth, This that liueth is my sonne, and the dead is thy sonne: and the other sayth, Nay, but the dead is thy sonne, and the liuing is my sonne.

Then the King said, Bring me a sworde: and they brought out a sworde before the King.

And the King sayde, Deuide ye the liuing child in twaine, and giue the one halfe to the one, and the other halfe to the other.

Then spake the woman, whose the liuing child was, vnto the King, for her compassion was kindled toward her sonne, and she sayde, Oh my lorde, giue her the liuing childe, and slay him not: but the other sayde, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but deuide it.

Then the King answered, and sayde, Giue her the liuing childe, and slay him not: this is his mother.

And all Israel heard the iudgement, which the King had iudged, and they feared the King: for they sawe that the wisedome of God was in him to doe iustice.

Salomo bittet um Weisheit

(2. Chronik 1,1-13; Psalm 45,1-17; Psalm 72,1-20)

Als nun das Königtum Salomons befestigt war, verband er sich durch Schwägerschaft mit Pharao, dem Könige von Ägypten; er nahm nämlich dessen Tochter und brachte sie in die Davidsstadt, bis er den Bau seines Hauses und des Hauses des Herrn und der Mauer rings um Jerusalem vollendet hätte.

Doch opferte das Volk noch auf den Höhen, denn es war dem Namen des Herrn bis auf jenen Tag noch kein Tempel gebaut.

Salomon aber liebte den Herrn und wandelte nach den Satzungen seines Vaters David, nur dass er auf den Höhen opferte und Räucherwerk anzündete.

Und er zog nach Gabaon, um daselbst zu opfern, denn dies war die angesehenste Höhe. Tausend Opfertiere brachte Salomon auf jenem Altare zu Gabaon als Brandopfer dar.

Da erschien der Herr dem Salomon in der Nacht im Traumgesichte und sprach: Begehre, was du willst, dass ich dir geben soll!

Salomon sprach: Du hast an deinem Diener, meinem Vater David, große Barmherzigkeit getan, wie er denn vor dir wandelte in Wahrheit und Gerechtigkeit und aufrichtigen Herzens gegen dich war; und hast ihm deine große Barmherzigkeit bewahrt und ihm einen Sohn gegeben, der auf seinem Throne sitzt, wie es heute ist.

Und nun, Herr, Gott, du hast deinen Diener an meines Vaters Statt zum Könige gemacht; ich bin aber doch nur ein schwacher Jüngling und kenne weder meinen Ausgang noch Eingang

und dein Diener steht inmitten des Volkes, welches du erwählt hast, des zahllosen Volkes, das vor Menge nicht gezählt noch berechnet werden kann.

So wolltest du denn deinem Diener ein gelehriges Herz geben, dass er dein Volk zu richten und dass er zu unterscheiden wisse zwischen Gut und Böse; denn wer vermöchte dieses Volk zu richten, dies dein so zahlreiches Volk?

Diese Rede gefiel dem Herrn, dass Salomon solches begehrte.

Und der Herr sprach zu Salomon: Weil du dies begehrt und nicht um langes Leben noch um Reichtum oder um das Leben deiner Feinde gebeten, sondern dir Weisheit erfleht hast, um das Rechte zu entscheiden,

siehe, so tue ich dir nach deiner Bitte und gebe dir ein weises und einsichtiges Herz, so dass deines Gleichen nicht vor dir gewesen ist noch nach dir erstehen wird.

Aber auch das, was du nicht verlangt hast, gebe ich dir: Reichtum nämlich und Ehre, so dass niemand unter allen Königen früherer Tage dir gleichkommt.

Und wenn du auf meinen Wegen wandelst und meine Gebote und meine Gesetze beobachtest, so wie dein Vater gewandelt ist, so will ich dir ein langes Leben verleihen.

Da erwachte Salomon und erkannte, dass es ein Traumgesicht gewesen. Als er nun nach Jerusalem kam, trat er vor die Lade des Bundes des Herrn und brachte Brandopfer dar und schlachtete Friedopfer und gab allen seinen Dienern ein großes Mahl.

Salomos weises Urteil

Zu der Zeit kamen zwei Buhldirnen zu dem Könige und traten vor ihm.

Und die eine von ihnen sprach: Ich bitte, mein Gebieter! Ich und dieses Weib wohnten in einem Hause und ich gebar bei ihr im Gemache.

Am dritten Tage aber, nachdem ich geboren hatte, gebar auch sie; wir waren beisammen und niemand weiter bei uns im Hause, nur wir beide.

Da starb der Sohn dieses Weibes in der Nacht, denn sie erdrückte ihn im Schlafe.

Und sie stand in der Stille der Mitternacht auf, nahm meinen Sohn von meiner Seite, während deine Magd schlief, und legte ihn an ihren Busen; aber ihren Sohn, der tot war, legte sie an meinen Busen.

Als ich nun am Morgen aufstand, um meinen Sohn zu säugen, zeigte es sich, dass er tot war; als ich ihn aber am hellen Tage genauer anschaute, fand ich, dass es nicht der meine ist, den ich geboren hatte.

Da antwortete das andere Weib: Dem ist nicht so, wie du sagst, sondern dein Sohn ist tot und der meinige lebt. Jene sprach dagegen: Du lügst, denn mein Sohn lebt und dein Sohn ist tot. So stritten sie vor dem Könige.

Da sprach der König: Diese sagt: Mein Sohn lebt und dein Sohn ist tot, und jene antwortet: Nein, sondern dein Sohn ist tot, der meine aber lebt.

Darauf befahl der König: Bringet mir ein Schwert herbei! Als nun das Schwert vor den König gebracht war,

sprach er: Hauet das lebende Kind in zwei Teile und gebet die eine Hälfte der einen und die andere Hälfte der andern!

Da sprach die Frau, deren Sohn lebte, zu dem Könige (denn ihr Herz ward von Erbarmen für ihren Sohn bewegt): Ich bitte, Herr, gebet dieser das Kind lebend und tötet es nicht! Die andere dagegen rief: Es gehöre weder mir noch dir, sondern es werde geteilt!

Da antwortete der König und sprach: Gebet dieser das Kind lebend und tötet es nicht! Denn diese ist die Mutter desselben.

Als nun ganz Israel von dem Urteil hörte, das der König gefällt hatte, fürchteten sie den König, weil sie sahen, dass die Weisheit Gottes ihn erfüllte, recht zu sprechen.
