- Kapitel 62 -

Waiting for God

God is the only one who can give me peace in my inner being, and he is the one who saves me from my enemies.

Only he is like a huge rock on which I can be safe; he is like a fortress high up that my enemies cannot climb.

When will you, my enemies, stop attacking me? I feel that I am as weak against you as a leaning wall or a broken-down fence.

My enemies plan to remove me from my important position so that people no longer honor me. They delight in telling lies. They bless people by what they say, but in their inner beings they curse those people.

God is the only one who gives me peace in my inner being; he is the one whom I confidently expect to help me.

Only he is like a huge rock on which I can be safe; he is like a shelter; my enemies can never reach me there.

God is the one who saves me and honors me. He is like a huge, strong rock on which I can find shelter.

You my people, always trust in him. Tell him all your troubles because we go to him for safety.

People who are considered to be unimportant are as unreliable as a breath of air; people who are considered to be important also really amount to nothing. If you put them all on a scale, it would be as if they weighed less than a puff of air.

Do not trust in money gained by extorting it from others; do not try to gain anything by robbing others. If you become very wealthy, do not trust in your money.

I have heard God say more than once that he is the one who really has power,

and that he is the one who faithfully loves us, as he promised. He rewards every one of us according to the deeds that we do.

Warten auf Gott

Zum Ende, für Idithun, ein Psalm Davids.

Soll wohl meine Seele Gott nicht unterworfen sein, von ihm kommt mir ja Hilfe?

Ja, er nur ist mein Gott und mein Retter, mein Schirmer, ich werde nicht mehr wanken.

Wie lange stürmt ihr ein auf einen Mann und geht mit Mordgedanken um, ihr alle, wie auf eine sinkende Wand und eine einstürzende Mauer?

Nur darauf sinnen sie, mir meine Ehre zu rauben, dürstend irre ich umher; mit ihrem Munde segnen sie, in ihrem Herzen fluchen sie.

Doch du, meine Seele, sei Gott unterworfen, denn von ihm kommt mir Zuversicht.

Denn er ist mein Gott und mein Retter, mein Helfer, ich werde nicht in die Fremde fliehen.

Auf Gott beruht mein Heil und mein Ruhm, er ist der Gott, der mir hilft, und meine Hoffnung beruht auf Gott!

Vertraue auf ihn, du ganze Gemeinde des Volkes, schüttet euer Herz vor ihm aus! Gott ist unser Helfer in Ewigkeit.

Fürwahr! nichtig sind die Menschenkinder, trügerisch die Menschenkinder, werden sie auf der Waage gewogen, sie täuschen allesamt wegen ihrer Nichtigkeit.

Verlasset euch nicht auf Unrecht und verlanget nicht nach Raub, und wenn euch Reichtum zuströmt, so hänget das Herz nicht an denselben!

Einmal hat Gott gesprochen. Diese zwei Dinge vernahm ich: Gott gehört die Macht zu,

und bei dir, o Herr! ist Erbarmen; denn du vergiltst einem jeden nach seinen Taten.
