- Kapitel 29 -

Now the Philistines gathered together all their armies to Aphek: and the Israelites pitched by a fountain which is in Jezreel.

And the lords of the Philistines passed on by hundreds, and by thousands: but David and his men passed on in the rereward with Achish.

Then said the princes of the Philistines, What do these Hebrews here? And Achish said unto the princes of the Philistines, Is not this David, the servant of Saul the king of Israel, which hath been with me these days, or these years, and I have found no fault in him since he fell unto me unto this day?

And the princes of the Philistines were wroth with him; and the princes of the Philistines said unto him, Make this fellow return, that he may go again to his place which thou hast appointed him, and let him not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he be an adversary to us: for wherewith should he reconcile himself unto his master? should it not be with the heads of these men?

Is not this David, of whom they sang one to another in dances, saying, Saul slew his thousands, and David his ten thousands?

Then Achish called David, and said unto him, Surely, as the Lord liveth, thou hast been upright, and thy going out and thy coming in with me in the host is good in my sight: for I have not found evil in thee since the day of thy coming unto me unto this day: nevertheless the lords favour thee not.(a)

Wherefore now return, and go in peace, that thou displease not the lords of the Philistines.(b)

And David said unto Achish, But what have I done? and what hast thou found in thy servant so long as I have been with thee unto this day, that I may not go fight against the enemies of my lord the king?(c)

And Achish answered and said to David, I know that thou art good in my sight, as an angel of God: notwithstanding the princes of the Philistines have said, He shall not go up with us to the battle.

Wherefore now rise up early in the morning with thy master’s servants that are come with thee: and as soon as ye be up early in the morning, and have light, depart.

So David and his men rose up early to depart in the morning, to return into the land of the Philistines. And the Philistines went up to Jezreel.

Die Philister lehnen David ab

Die Philister also hatten alle ihre Heerscharen in Aphek gesammelt; Israel aber lagerte an der Quelle, die in Jezrahel war.

Als nun die Statthalter der Philister mit ihren Hunderten und Tausenden einherzogen, David aber mit seinen Leuten im letzten Zuge mit Achis war,

sprachen die Fürsten der Philister zu Achis: Was sollen diese Hebräer da? Achis sprach zu den Fürsten der Philister: Kennt ihr David nicht, der ein Diener Sauls, des Königs von Israel, war und viele Tage und Jahre bei mir ist, ohne dass ich an ihm etwas auszusetzen gefunden hätte von dem Tage an, an dem er zu mir geflohen ist, bis auf diesen Tag?

Die Fürsten der Philister aber wurden auf ihn zornig und sprachen zu ihm: Lass den Mann zurückkehren und an dem Orte bleiben, an den du ihn gesetzt hast; er soll nicht mit uns in den Kampf ziehen, damit er sich nicht gegen uns wende, wenn wir den Kampf beginnen; denn womit anders könnte er seinen Herrn versöhnen, als mit unsern Köpfen?

Ist dies nicht David, dem im Reigen die Worte zugesungen wurden: Saul hat seine Tausende erschlagen, aber David seine Zehntausende?

Da rief Achis den David herbei und sprach zu ihm: So wahr der Herr lebt! Du bist aufrichtig und gut in meinen Augen und dein Ausgang und dein Eingang im Lager bei mir ist mir wohlgefällig und ich habe an dir nichts Böses gefunden von dem Tage an, da du zu mir kamst, bis auf diesen Tag; aber den Statthaltern gefällst du nicht.

Kehre also um und ziehe hin in Frieden und sei in den Augen der Statthalter der Philister kein Anstoß!

David sprach zu Achis: Was habe ich denn getan und was hast du an mir, deinem Diener, gefunden von dem Tage an, da ich vor dein Angesicht trat, bis auf diesen Tag, dass ich nicht mitkommen und wider die Feinde meines Herrn, des Königs, kämpfen soll?

Achis aber antwortete und sprach zu David: Ich weiss, dass du in meinen Augen gut bist wie ein Engel Gottes; aber die Fürsten der Philister haben gesagt: Er soll nicht mit uns in den Kampf ziehen!

So mach dich nun in der Frühe auf, du und die Diener deines Herrn, welche mit dir gekommen sind; stehet des Nachts auf und wenn es anfängt zu tagen, so ziehet von dannen.

David also stand des Nachts mit seinen Männern auf, um am Morgen abzuziehen und in das Land der Philister zurückzukehren. Die Philister aber zogen nach Jezrahel hinauf.
