- Kapitel 15 -

(Exodus 23:10–13; Leviticus 25:1–7)

At the end of every seven years thou shalt make a release.

And this is the manner of the release: Every creditor that lendeth ought unto his neighbour shall release it; he shall not exact it of his neighbour, or of his brother; because it is called the Lord’s release.(a)

Of a foreigner thou mayest exact it again: but that which is thine with thy brother thine hand shall release;

Save when there shall be no poor among you; for the Lord shall greatly bless thee in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it:(b)

Only if thou carefully hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe to do all these commandments which I command thee this day.

For the Lord thy God blesseth thee, as he promised thee: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, but thou shalt not borrow; and thou shalt reign over many nations, but they shall not reign over thee.

Generosity in Lending and Giving

(Matthew 6:1–4)

If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother:

But thou shalt open thine hand wide unto him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he wanteth.

Beware that there be not a thought in thy wicked heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother, and thou givest him nought; and he cry unto the Lord against thee, and it be sin unto thee.(c)

Thou shalt surely give him, and thine heart shall not be grieved when thou givest unto him: because that for this thing the Lord thy God shall bless thee in all thy works, and in all that thou puttest thine hand unto.

For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.

Hebrew Servants

(Exodus 21:1–11)

And if thy brother, an Hebrew man, or an Hebrew woman, be sold unto thee, and serve thee six years; then in the seventh year thou shalt let him go free from thee.

And when thou sendest him out free from thee, thou shalt not let him go away empty:

Thou shalt furnish him liberally out of thy flock, and out of thy floor, and out of thy winepress: of that wherewith the Lord thy God hath blessed thee thou shalt give unto him.

And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt, and the Lord thy God redeemed thee: therefore I command thee this thing to day.

And it shall be, if he say unto thee, I will not go away from thee; because he loveth thee and thine house, because he is well with thee;

Then thou shalt take an aul, and thrust it through his ear unto the door, and he shall be thy servant for ever. And also unto thy maidservant thou shalt do likewise.

It shall not seem hard unto thee, when thou sendest him away free from thee; for he hath been worth a double hired servant to thee, in serving thee six years: and the Lord thy God shall bless thee in all that thou doest.

Firstborn Animals

(Exodus 13:1–16)

All the firstling males that come of thy herd and of thy flock thou shalt sanctify unto the Lord thy God: thou shalt do no work with the firstling of thy bullock, nor shear the firstling of thy sheep.

Thou shalt eat it before the Lord thy God year by year in the place which the Lord shall choose, thou and thy household.

And if there be any blemish therein, as if it be lame, or blind, or have any ill blemish, thou shalt not sacrifice it unto the Lord thy God.

Thou shalt eat it within thy gates: the unclean and the clean person shall eat it alike, as the roebuck, and as the hart.

Only thou shalt not eat the blood thereof; thou shalt pour it upon the ground as water.

Schuldentilgung alle sieben Jahre

(2. Mose 23,10-13; 3. Mose 25,1-7)

Im siebenten Jahre sollst du einen Erlass stattfinden lassen;

mit diesem soll es also gehalten werden: Jeder, dem sein Freund, oder Nächster, oder Bruder etwas schuldet, soll es nicht zurückfordern können, weil es das Erlassjahr des Herrn ist.

Von dem Fremden und Ankömmling magst du es zurückfordern; aber von deinem Mitbürger und Nächsten es zurückzufordern, soll dir nicht zustehen.

Einen ganz Armen und Bettler gebe es nicht unter euch, damit der Herr, dein Gott, dich in dem Lande segne, welches er dir zum Besitze geben wird.

Wenn du nur auf die Stimme des Herrn, deines Gottes, hörst und alles hältst, was er geboten hat und was ich dir heute befehle, so wird er dich segnen, wie er verheißen hat.

Du wirst vielen Völkern leihen und selbst von niemand zu entlehnen brauchen. Du wirst über sehr viele Völker herrschen und über dich wird niemand herrschen.

Großzügigkeit gegenüber den Armen

(Matthäus 6,1-4)

Wenn einer deiner Brüder, die innerhalb der Tore deiner Stadt in dem Lande weilen, welches der Herr, dein Gott, dir geben will, in Armut gerät, so sollst du dein Herz nicht verhärten und deine Hand nicht verschließen,

sondern sie dem Armen öffnen und ihm leihen, was du siehest, dass er bedarf.

Hüte dich, dass dich nicht etwa der lieblose Gedanke beschleiche, dass du in deinem Herzen sagst: Das siebente Jahr, das Erlassjahr, ist nahe, und du also deine Augen von deinem armen Bruder abwendest und ihm nicht leihen wollest, was er verlangt, damit er nicht zum Herrn wider dich rufe und es dir zur Sünde werde.

Vielmehr gib ihm und handle nicht hinterlistig, wenn du seiner Not abhilfst, damit der Herr, dein Gott, dich allezeit und in allem segne, was deine Hand unternimmt.

Arme werden im Lande deines Wohnsitzes nicht fehlen; darum gebiete ich dir, dass du deinem dürftigen Bruder und dem Armen, der bei dir in dem Lande weilt, deine Hand auftuest.

Das Gesetz über die Knechte

(2. Mose 21,1-11)

Wenn sich dir dein Bruder, ein Hebräer oder eine Hebräerin, verkauft und dir sechs Jahre gedient hat, so sollst du ihn im siebenten Jahre freilassen;

und wenn du ihm die Freiheit schenkst, so sollst du ihn nicht leer fortgehen lassen,

sondern ihm Wegzehrung geben von deinen Herden, deiner Tenne, und deiner Kelter, mit denen dich der Herr, dein Gott, gesegnet hat.

Gedenke, dass auch du im Lande Ägypten in Knechtschaft warst und der Herr, dein Gott, dich frei gemacht hat; und darum gebe ich dir heute dies Gebot.

Wenn er aber sagt: Ich will nicht weggehen, weil er dich und dein Haus lieb hat und fühlt, dass es ihm bei dir wohlgeht,

so nimm einen Pfriemen und bohre ihn durch sein Ohr an die Türe deines Hauses, und er soll auf ewig dein Knecht sein, und ebenso sollst du auch mit einer Magd tun.

Wende deine Augen nicht von ihnen, wenn du sie freilässest; denn sie haben dir sechs Jahre hindurch um den Lohn eines Tagelöhners gedient; auf dass der Herr, dein Gott, dich segne in allen Werken, welche du unternimmst.

Das Gesetz über die erstgeborenen Tiere

(2. Mose 13,1-16)

Jedes Erstgeborene männlichen Geschlechtes, das von deinen Rindern und Schafen zur Welt kommt, sollst du dem Herrn, deinem Gott, weihen. Du sollst mit dem Erstgeborenen des Rindes nicht arbeiten, und die Erstgeborenen der Schafe sollst du nicht scheren.

Vor dem Herrn, deinem Gott, sollst du sie alljährlich essen, an dem Orte, welchen der Herr erwählt, du und deine Familie.

Wenn es aber einen Fehler hat, lahm ist, oder blind, oder an einem Teile missgestaltet oder schwächlich, so soll es dem Herrn, deinem Gott, nicht als Opfer dargebracht werden,

sondern innerhalb der Tore deiner Stadt magst du es essen: der Reine wie der Unreine mögen es essen, wie ein Reh oder einen Hirsch.

Nur habe Acht, dass du ihr Blut nicht genießest, sondern gieße es auf die Erde aus wie Wasser.
