- Kapitel 24 -

Behold, the Lord maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof.(a)

And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him.(b)

The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the Lord hath spoken this word.

The earth mourneth and fadeth away, the world languisheth and fadeth away, the haughty people of the earth do languish.(c)

The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant.

Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left.

The new wine mourneth, the vine languisheth, all the merryhearted do sigh.

The mirth of tabrets ceaseth, the noise of them that rejoice endeth, the joy of the harp ceaseth.

They shall not drink wine with a song; strong drink shall be bitter to them that drink it.

The city of confusion is broken down: every house is shut up, that no man may come in.

There is a crying for wine in the streets; all joy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone.

In the city is left desolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction.

When thus it shall be in the midst of the land among the people, there shall be as the shaking of an olive tree, and as the gleaning grapes when the vintage is done.

They shall lift up their voice, they shall sing for the majesty of the Lord , they shall cry aloud from the sea.

Wherefore glorify ye the Lord in the fires, even the name of the Lord God of Israel in the isles of the sea.(d)

From the uttermost part of the earth have we heard songs, even glory to the righteous. But I said, My leanness, my leanness, woe unto me! the treacherous dealers have dealt treacherously; yea, the treacherous dealers have dealt very treacherously.(e)

Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth.

And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake.

The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly.

The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.

And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall punish the host of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth.(g)

And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visited.(h)

Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the Lord of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously.(k)

Das bevorstehende Gericht über die Erde

Siehe, der Herr wird die Erde leer machen und kahl, wird ihr Angesicht verstören und ihre Bewohner zerstreuen.

Und es wird wie dem Volk, so dem Priester ergehen; wie dem Knechte, so dem Herrn; wie der Magd, so der Herrin; wie dem Käufer, so dem Verkäufer; wie dem Verleiher, so dem Entlehner; wie dem Gläubiger, so dem Schuldner.

Die Erde wird verheert und verwüstet, beraubt und ausgeplündert werden; denn der Herr hat dies Wort gesprochen.

Die Erde ist traurig, dahingewelkt und verschmachtet; hingewelkt ist der Erdkreis, verschmachtet die Herrlichkeit des Volkes auf Erden.

Die Erde ist befleckt von ihren Bewohnern; denn sie haben die Gesetze übertreten, das Recht verkehrt, den ewigen Bund gebrochen.

Darum wird Fluch die Erde verschlingen und ihre Bewohner werden die Schuld büßen, daher wird Wahnsinn seine Bebauer erfassen und nur wenige Menschen werden übrigbleiben.

Es trauert die Weinlese, verschmachtet ist der Weinstock; es seufzen alle, die fröhlichen Herzens waren.

Verklungen ist die Freude der Pauken, es hat das Getümmel der Fröhlichen ein Ende, verstummt ist der Harfe süßer Klang.

Nicht trinken sie mehr Wein bei Gesang, bitter ist den Trinkenden der Trank.

In Trümmern liegt die Stadt der Nichtigkeit, geschlossen ist jedes Haus, niemand tritt ein.

Wehklagen ertönt ob des Weines auf den Straßen, alle Freude ist entschwunden, weggenommen aller Frohsinn der Erde.

Öde ist in der Stadt zurückgeblieben und Unglück überwältigt die Tore.

Denn so wir es ergehen, inmitten der Erde, inmitten der Völker; wie wenn die wenigen Oliven, welche am Ölbaum zurückgeblieben sind, abgeschüttelt werden, und die Trauben, wenn die Weinlese vollendet ist.

Diese werden ihre Stimme erheben und lobsingen; wenn sich der Herr verherrlicht, werden sie vom Meere her jubeln.

Deswegen verherrlichet den Herrn in den Offenbarungen, auf den Meeresinseln den Namen des Herrn, des Gottes Israels!

Von den Enden der Erde hören wir Lobgesänge, die Herrlichkeit des Gerechten. Und ich sprach: Ich muss schweigen, wehe mir! Die Frevler freveln, ja mit der Freveltat der Übertreter freveln sie!

Schrecken und Grube und Fallstrick über dich, du Bewohner der Erde!

Und es wird geschehen: Wer vor dem Getöse des Schreckens flieht, wird in die Grube fallen, und wer sich aus der Grube herausarbeitet, wird von dem Fallstrick erfasst; denn die Schleusen aus der Höhe sind geöffnet, die Grundfesten der Erde erbeben.

Zerrissen wird die Erde, zertrümmert wird die Erde, erschüttert wird die Erde.

Es taumelt die Erde hin und her wie ein trunkener und wird von ihrer Stätte weggerissen wie das Zelt einer Nacht; schwer lastet auf ihr Frevel, sie fällt und sie vermag nicht sich wieder zu erheben.

Und es wird geschehen: An jenem Tage wird der Herr des Himmels Heer in der Höhe heimsuchen und die Könige der Erde auf Erden

und sie werden zusammengeworfen werden, wie zu einem Büschel gesammelt in eine Grube, und dort eingeschlossen in dem Kerker und nach langer Zeit werden sie heimgesucht werden.

Und der Mond wird erröten und die Sonne zuschanden werden, wenn der Herr der Heerscharen herrscht auf dem Berge Sion und zu Jerusalem und angesichts seiner Ältesten verherrlicht wird.
