- Kapitel 22 -

Eliphaz accuses Job of wickedness

Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,

Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself?(a)

Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? or is it gain to him, that thou makest thy ways perfect?

Will he reprove thee for fear of thee? will he enter with thee into judgment?

Is not thy wickedness great? and thine iniquities infinite?

For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing.(b)

Thou hast not given water to the weary to drink, and thou hast withholden bread from the hungry.

But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; and the honourable man dwelt in it.(c)

(d)

Thou hast sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.

Therefore snares are round about thee, and sudden fear troubleth thee;

Or darkness, that thou canst not see; and abundance of waters cover thee.

Is not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are!(e)

And thou sayest, How doth God know? can he judge through the dark cloud?(f)

Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he seeth not; and he walketh in the circuit of heaven.

Hast thou marked the old way which wicked men have trodden?

Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood:(g)

Which said unto God, Depart from us: and what can the Almighty do for them?(h)

Yet he filled their houses with good things: but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

The righteous see it, and are glad: and the innocent laugh them to scorn.

Whereas our substance is not cut down, but the remnant of them the fire consumeth.(i)

Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee.(k)

Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart.

If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles.

Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.(l)

Yea, the Almighty shall be thy defence, and thou shalt have plenty of silver.(m)

For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God.

Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows.

Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.

When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person.(o)

He shall deliver the island of the innocent: and it is delivered by the pureness of thine hands.(p)

Eliphas klagt Hiob der Schlechtigkeit an

Eliphaz, der Themaniter, antwortete und sprach:

Kann etwa der Mensch mit Gott sich vergleichen, auch wenn er vollkommene Wissenschaft besitzt?

Was nützt es Gott, wenn du gerecht bist? Oder was verschaffst du ihm, wenn dein Wandel unbefleckt ist?

Wird er etwa aus Furcht mit dir rechten und ins Gericht mit dir kommen

und nicht um deiner vielen Bosheit und um deiner grenzenlosen Missetaten willen?

Denn du nahmst das Pfand deiner Brüder ohne Ursache weg und zogst den Halbnackten die Kleider aus,

du gabst dem Müden nicht Wasser und verweigertest dem Hungrigen das Brot

durch die Stärke deines Armes nahmst du das Land in Besitz und behieltest es als der Mächtigste,

die Witwen ließest du leer fortgehen und zerbrachest die Stützen der Waisen.

Darum bist du mit Schlingen umgeben und plötzlicher Schrecken überfällt dich,

und du meintest, du würdest die Finsternis nicht sehen und von der Gewalt der überströmenden Fluten nicht überwältigt werden?

Bedenkst du nicht, dass Gott höher ist als der Himmel und erhaben über den Gipfel der Sterne?

Und du sprichst: Was weiß denn Gott? und wie durch Wolkendunkel hält er Gericht.

Wolken sind seine Hülle und er achtet nicht, was uns angeht, und durchwandert den Umkreis des Himmels!

Willst du den Pfad der Vorwelt schreiten, den die Männer des Frevels gewandelt sind?

Sie wurden hinweggerafft vor ihrer Zeit, denn ein Strom unterwühlte ihren Grund.

sie sprachen zu Gott: Weiche von uns! Und als ob der Allmächtige nichts tun könnte, achteten sie ihn,

während er doch ihre Häuser mit Gütern gefüllt hatte; ja deren Gesinnung sei ferne von mir!

Die Gerechten werden es sehen und sich freuen und der Unschuldige wird ihrer spotten.

Ward nicht ihre Hoffart gefällt, fraß nicht das Feuer, was von ihnen übrig war?

So füge dich ihm denn und ergib dich darin in Ruhe, und das wird dir die besten Früchte bringen!

Nimm aus seinem Munde Belehrung an und nimm seine Aussprüche in dein Herz auf.

Wenn du umkehrst zu dem Allmächtigen, wirst du aufgebaut werden und wirst das Unrecht von deinem Zelte fernhalten.

Er wird statt Erde Kiesel geben und statt der Kiesel Gold wie in Bächen.

Und der Allmächtige wird wider deine Feinde stehen und das Silber wird sich dir häufen.

Alsdann wirst du am Allmächtigen deine Wonne finden und dein Angesicht zu Gott erheben.

Du wirst zu ihm beten und er wird dich erhören und du wirst deine Gelübde erfüllen.

Beschließest du eine Sache, so wird sie dir gelingen und Licht wird auf deinen Wegen leuchten.

Denn wer sich demütigt, wird in Herrlichkeit sein; und wer die Augen niederschlägt, dem wird Rettung werden.

Der Unschuldige wird gerettet werden, aber gerettet durch die Reinheit seiner Hände.
