- Kapitel 16 -

The Lord and the ways of men

The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the Lord .(a)
2
All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the Lord weigheth the spirits.
3
Commit thy works unto the Lord , and thy thoughts shall be established.(b)
4
The Lord hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.
5
Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord : though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.(c)
6
By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.
7
When a man’s ways please the Lord , he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.
8
Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right.
9
A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps.
10
A divine sentence is in the lips of the king: his mouth transgresseth not in judgment.(d)
11
A just weight and balance are the Lord’s : all the weights of the bag are his work.(e)

Wisdom - the source of life

It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness.
13
Righteous lips are the delight of kings; and they love him that speaketh right.
14
The wrath of a king is as messengers of death: but a wise man will pacify it.
15
In the light of the king’s countenance is life; and his favour is as a cloud of the latter rain.
16
How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!
17
The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul.
18
Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
19
Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.
20
He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the Lord , happy is he.(f)

The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.
22
Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it: but the instruction of fools is folly.
23
The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips.(g)
24
Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

The wicked and deceitful man

There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

He that laboureth laboureth for himself; for his mouth craveth it of him.(h) (i)

An ungodly man diggeth up evil: and in his lips there is as a burning fire.(j)
28
A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends.(k)
29
A violent man enticeth his neighbour, and leadeth him into the way that is not good.
30
He shutteth his eyes to devise froward things: moving his lips he bringeth evil to pass.
31
The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.
32
He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.
33
The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the Lord .

Der HERR und die Wege der Menschen

Der Mensch mag wohl im Herzen planen, aber des Herrn ist es, die Zunge zu lenken. (vergl. V. 9)

Alle Wege des Menschen liegen vor seinen Augen offen da, aber der Herr wägt die Geister.

Offenbare dem Herrn dein Tun, so wird dein Vorhaben gelingen.

Alles hat der Herr um seinetwillen gemacht, so auch den Gottlosen für den Tag des Unglücks.

Ein Greuel ist für den Herrn jeder Hochmütige, liegt auch Hand an Hand, er bleibt nicht ungestraft. Der Anfang eines guten Wandels ist Gerechtigkeit üben, sie ist bei Gott angenehmer als Schlachtopfer darbringen.

Durch Barmherzigkeit und Treue wird Schuld gesühnt und durch die Furcht des Herrn meidet man das Böse.

Wenn der Wandel eines Menschen dem Herrn wohlgefällt, so wird er auch seine Feinde zum Frieden mit ihm bringen.

Besser ist weniges mit Recht als viel Einkünfte mit Unrecht.

Des Menschen Herz denkt sich seinen Weg aus, aber der Herr lenkt seine Schritte. (vergl. Vers 1)

Weisheitsspruch ist auf den Lippen des Königs, sein Mund wird im Gerichte nicht irren.

Gewicht und Waage unterliegen dem Gerichte des Herrn, und alle Gewichtsteine im Beutel sind sein Werk.

Weisheit - die Quelle des Lebens

Ein Greuel sind dem Könige alle, die gottlos handeln. Denn durch Gerechtigkeit hat der Thron Festigkeit.

Der Könige Wohlgefallen sind gerechte Lippen; wer redet, was recht ist, wird geliebt.

Der Zorn des Königs gleicht den Todesboten, doch ein weiser Mann besänftigt ihn.
15
Im freundlichen Blicke des Königs ist Leben und sein Wohlwollen gleicht dem Spätregen.
16
Erwirb dir Weisheit, denn sie ist besser als Gold; und verschaffe dir Klugheit, denn sie ist kostbarer als Silber.

Der Weg der Gerechten meidet das Böse; wer seine Seele hütet, hat acht auf seinen Wandel.

Stolz geht dem Sturze vorher und Hochmut dem Falle.

Besser ist es, mit den Sanftmütigen gedemütigt zu werden als mit den Stolzen Beute zu teilen.

Wer geschickt ist in einer Sache, wird Glück finden; und wer auf den Herrn hofft, ist glückselig.

Wer ein weises Herz hat, wird ein Verständiger genannt, und wer annehmlich reden kann, gewinnt noch mehr.

Ein Quell des Lebens ist die Klugheit für den, der sie besitzt; des Toren Lehre ist Torheit.

Das Herz des Weisen macht seinen Mund einsichtig und mehrt die Anmut seiner Lippen.

Honigseim sind wohlgeordnete Worte, süß für die Seele, Heilung dem Gebeine.

Der böse und betrügerische Mensch

Mancher Weg dünkt dem Menschen der rechte, aber das Ende davon führt zum Tode.

Das Verlangen des Arbeiters lässt es ihm sauer werden, denn sein Mund drängt ihn.

Ein böser Mensch gräbt Unheil und auf seinen Lippen brennt Feuer.

Ein falscher Mensch richtet Hader an und ein Ohrenbläser entzweit Fürsten.

Ein ungerechter Mensch lockt seinen Nächsten und führt ihn auf einen Weg, der nicht gut ist.

Wer starren Auges denkt, beißt seine Lippen zusammen und führt das Böse aus.

Eine Krone der Ehre ist das Greisenalter, die auf dem Wege der Gerechtigkeit erlangt wird.

Besser ist ein Langmütiger als ein Starker, und wer sein Herz beherrscht besser als ein Städte-Eroberer.

Die Lose werden in den Schoß geworfen, aber der Herr lenkt sie.
