Righteous and lawless mouths

Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of sacrifices with strife.(a)
2
A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causeth shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren.
3
The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the Lord trieth the hearts.
4
A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips; and a liar giveth ear to a naughty tongue.
5
Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker: and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.(b)

Children’s children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.
7
Excellent speech becometh not a fool: much less do lying lips a prince.(c) (d)

A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it: whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth.(e)
9
He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.(f)
10
A reproof entereth more into a wise man than an hundred stripes into a fool.(g)

An evil man seeketh only rebellion: therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.

Let a bear robbed of her whelps meet a man, rather than a fool in his folly.

Wisdom in behavior

Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.

The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water: therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with.

He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the Lord .

Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing he hath no heart to it?
17
A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
18
A man void of understanding striketh hands, and becometh surety in the presence of his friend.(h)
19
He loveth transgression that loveth strife: and he that exalteth his gate seeketh destruction.
20
He that hath a froward heart findeth no good: and he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into mischief.(i)
21
He that begetteth a fool doeth it to his sorrow: and the father of a fool hath no joy.
22
A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.(j)

A wicked man taketh a gift out of the bosom to pervert the ways of judgment.
24
Wisdom is before him that hath understanding; but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth.
25
A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bare him.
26
Also to punish the just is not good, nor to strike princes for equity.
27
He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.(k)
28
Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.

Gerechte und gesetzlose Münder

Besser ist ein trockener Bissen und dabei Freude als ein Haus voll Schlachtopfer und dazu Zank.

Ein weiser Knecht herrscht über törichte Söhne und verteilt das Erbe unter den Brüdern.

Wie das Silber im Feuer und das Gold im Schmelzofen geprüft wird, so prüft der Herr die Herzen.

Der Übeltäter gehorcht der argen Zunge und der Betrüger folgt lügenhaften Lippen.

Wer den Armen verachtet, beschimpft dessen Schöpfer; und wer sich über eines andern Fall freut, bleibt nicht ungestraft.

Die Krone der Greise sind Kindeskinder und der Ruhm der Söhne sind ihre Väter.

Es ziemt einem Toren nicht erhabene Rede noch dem Fürsten lügenhafte Lippen.

Wie ein kostbarer Edelstein ist das, was jemand mit Sehnsucht erwartet; wohin er sich immer wendet, handelt er weise.

Wer über einen Fehltritt hinwegsieht, erwirbt Freundschaft; wer ihn aber immer und immer rügt, entzweit Verbundene.

Ein Verweis hilft mehr bei dem Weisen als hundert Schläge bei dem Toren.

Der Bösewicht sucht immer Händel, aber ein erbarmungsloser Bote wird wider ihn entsendet werden.

Es ist besser, einer Bärin zu begegnen, welcher die Jungen geraubt sind, als einem Toren, der sich auf seine Torheit verlässt.

Weisheit im Verhalten

Wer Gutes mit Bösem vergilt, von dessen Hause wird das Unglück nicht weichen.

Wer Wasser auslässt, ist Ursache zum Streit; ehe er aber Schmach leidet, gibt er den Streit auf.

Wer den Bösen freispricht und wer den Gerechten verurteilt, beide sind ein Greuel vor Gott.

Was nützt es dem Toren, Reichtümer zu haben, da er die Weisheit nicht kaufen kann? Wer sein Haus hoch baut, sucht den Einsturz, und wer Belehrung scheut, fällt in Unglück.

Unwandelbar liebt, wer ein Freund ist, und ein Bruder wird in der Not bewährt.

Ein Tor klatscht mit den Händen, wenn er sich für seinen Nächsten verbürgt.

Wer auf Uneinigkeit sinnt, liebt Streit; und wer seine Tür zu hoch macht, sucht Einsturz.

Wer verkehrten Herzens ist, findet kein Glück; und wer seine Worte dreht, stürzt ins Unglück.

Der Tor ist zu seiner eigenen Schande geboren und auch der Vater kann an einem Toren keine Freude haben.

Ein fröhliches Herz schafft ein blühendes Alter, ein trauriger Geist trocknet die Gebeine aus.

Der Gottlose nimmt Geschenke aus dem Busen an, um die Bahnen des Rechtes zu verkehren.

Auf dem Antlitze des Weisen leuchtet die Weisheit, die Augen der Toren schweifen bis an das Ende der Erde.

Ein törichter Sohn ist der Verdruss des Vaters und der Kummer der Mutter, die ihn geboren hat.

Es ist nicht gut, dem Gerechten Schaden zuzufügen noch einen Fürsten zu schlagen, der gerecht richtet.

Wer sich im Reden beherrscht, ist weise und klug; und schätzbaren Geistes ist ein einsichtsvoller Mann.

Auch der Tor wird, wenn er schweigt, für weise gehalten, und wenn er seine Lippen geschlossen hält, für verständig.
