- Kapitel 19 -

The heavens declare the glory of God

1
The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
2
Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.
3
There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.(a)
4
Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,(b)
5
Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.
6
His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.
7
The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.(c) (d)
8
The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
9
The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.(e)
10
More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.(f)
11
Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.
12
Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults.
13
Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.(g)
14
Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord , my strength, and my redeemer.(h)

Zum Ende, ein Psalm Davids.

Die Himmel erzählen die Herrlichkeit Gottes und das Firmament verkündet seiner Hände Werke.

Ein Tag überbringt dem andern das Wort, es gibt eine Nacht der andern die Kunde.

Es ist keine Sprache, es ist kein Wort, deren Laute man nicht vernähme.

Über die ganze Erde geht ihr Schall aus und bis an die Enden des Erdkreises ihre Worte.

Er schlug sein Zelt in der Sonne auf und sie gleicht dem Bräutigam, der aus dem Brautgemache hervorgeht; gleich einem Helden jauchzt sie, ihre Bahn zu laufen.
7
Vom äußersten Himmel geht sie aus und ihr Lauf geht hin bis zu seiner Grenze, und niemand ist, der sich vor ihrer Glut verbergen könnte.

Des Herrn Gesetz ist makellos, die Seelen umgestaltend; des Herrn Zeugnis ist verlässig und gibt Weisheit den Einfältigen.

Die Vorschriften des Herrn sind gerade und erfreuen die Herzen, hellleuchtend ist das Gebot des Herrn und Licht den Augen.
10
Die Furcht des Herrn ist heilig und währt in Ewigkeit; die Satzungen des Herrn sind wahr, gerecht befunden insgesamt.

Wünschenswerter sind sie viel mehr als Gold und viel Edelgestein und süßer als Honig und Honigseim.
12
Auch befolgt sie dein Diener, ihre Beobachtung bringt vielfache Vergeltung.
13
Wer merkt die Sünden alle? Von meinen verborgenen Sünden reinige mich
14
und vor fremden behüte deinen Diener. Wenn sie nicht über mich herrschen, so werde ich unbefleckt bleiben und rein sein von schwerer Schuld.
15
Alsdann werden dir die Reden meines Mundes wohlgefallen und meines Herzens Gedanken werden allezeit vor dir sein. O Herr, du mein Helfer und mein Erlöser!
