- Kapitel 2 -

(Psalm 75:1–10)

Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.

But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.

And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?

Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

Who will render to every man according to his deeds:

To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:

But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,

Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;

But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:

For there is no respect of persons with God.

For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;

(For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.

For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:

Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)

In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

The Jews and the Law

Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God,

And knowest his will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law;

And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness,

An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law.

Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal?

Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege?

Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonourest thou God?

For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written.

For circumcision verily profiteth, if thou keep the law: but if thou be a breaker of the law, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision.

Therefore if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision?

And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfil the law, judge thee, who by the letter and circumcision dost transgress the law?

For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:

But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

Gottes gerechtes Urteil

(Psalm 75,1-10)

Darum bist du unentschuldbar, o Mensch! ein jeder, der du richtest; denn während du den andern richtest, verurteilst du dich selbst, da du dasselbe tust, was du richtest.

Denn wir wissen, dass das Gericht Gottes der Wahrheit gemäß ist über die, welche solches tun.

Meinst du aber das, o Mensch! der du die richtest, welche solches tun, und selbst das nämliche tust, dass du dem Gerichte Gottes entrinnen werdest?

Oder verachtest du den Reichtum seiner Güte und Geduld und Langmut? Weißt du nicht, dass die Güte Gottes dich zur Buße leitet?

Aber nach deiner Verstocktheit und deinem unbußfertigen Herzen häufest du dir Zorn auf den Tag des Zorns und der Offenbarung des Gerichtes Gottes,

der einem jeden vergelten wird nach seinen Werken:

denen nämlich, welche durch standhafte Übung guter Werke nach Herrlichkeit, Ehre und Unvergänglichkeit streben, mit dem ewigen Leben;

denen dagegen, welche streitsüchtig sind und sich der Wahrheit nicht unterwerfen, sondern der Ungerechtigkeit sich hingeben, steht Zorn und Grimm bevor.

Trübsal und Angst über die Seele eines jeden Menschen, der Böses tut, des Juden zuerst, und auch des Heiden;

Herrlichkeit aber, und Ehre und Friede jedem, der Gutes tut, dem Juden zuerst, und auch den Heiden.

Denn bei Gott gilt kein Ansehen der Person.

Denn alle, welche ohne das Gesetz gesündigt haben, werden ohne das Gesetz verloren gehen; und alle, welche unter dem Gesetze gesündigt haben, werden durch das Gesetz gerichtet werden.

Denn nicht die Hörer des Gesetzes sind gerecht vor Gott, sondern die Vollbringer des Gesetzes werden gerechtfertigt werden.

Denn wenn Heiden, welche das Gesetz nicht haben, von Natur aus das tun, was zum Gesetze gehört, so sind sie, die das Gesetz nicht haben, sich selbst Gesetz;

zeigen sie ja, dass das Werk des Gesetzes in ihren Herzen geschrieben ist, indem ihnen ihr Gewissen Zeugnis gibt und die Gedanken sich untereinander anklagen oder auch verteidigen,

an dem Tage, da Gott das Verborgene der Menschen richten wird nach meinem Evangelium durch Jesus Christus.

Die Juden sind genauso schuldig wie die Heiden

Wenn du aber ein Jude heißest, dich auf das Gesetz verläßest, und dich Gottes rühmest,

und seinen Willen kennst, und vom Gesetze belehrt das Bessere anerkennst,

und die Zuversicht hast, dass du ein Führer der Blinden seiest, ein Licht derer, die in Finsternis sind,

ein Erzieher der Unverständigen, ein Lehrer der Unmündigen, der den Inbegriff der Erkenntnis und der Wahrheit im Gesetze besitze:

der du also einen andern lehrest, lehrest dich selbst nicht; der du predigest, nicht zu stehlen, stiehlst;

der du sagst, man solle nicht ehebrechen, brichst die Ehe; der du die Götzenbilder verabscheuest, begehst Tempelraub;

der du dich des Gesetzes rühmest, verunehrst Gott durch Übertretung des Gesetzes!

(Denn der Name Gottes wird eurethalben unter den Heiden gelästert, wie geschrieben steht.)

Beschneidung nützt nichts

Die Beschneidung nützt allerdings, wenn du das Gesetz beobachtest; wenn du aber ein Übertreter des Gesetzes bist, so ist deine Beschneidung zur Vorhaut geworden.

Wenn also der Unbeschnittene die Forderungen des Gesetzes erfüllt, wird ihm seine Vorhaut nicht als Beschneidung gerechnet werden?

Und wird nicht der von Natur Unbeschnittene, der das Gesetz erfüllt, dich richten, der du bei Schrift und Beschneidung ein Übertreter des Gesetzes bist?

Denn nicht, wer es äußerlich ist, ist ein wahrer Jude, noch ist die äußere Beschneidung, die am Leibe geschieht, die rechte.

sondern wer es im Verborgenen ist, ist ein Jude, und die Beschneidung des Herzens, im Geiste, nicht dem Buchstaben nach, ist die rechte. Eines solchen Lob kommt nicht von Menschen, sondern von Gott.
