- Kapitel 12 -

(Matthew 26:6–13; Mark 14:3–9; Luke 7:36–50)

Jesus, therefore, six days before the Passover, came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, who had died, whom He raised out of the dead;

they made, therefore, a dinner to Him there, and Martha was ministering, and Lazarus was one of those reclining together with Him;

Mary, therefore, having taken a pound of ointment of spikenard, of great price, anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair, and the house was filled from the fragrance of the ointment.

Therefore one of His disciples—Judas Iscariot, of Simon, who is about to deliver Him up—says,

“Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii, and given to the poor?”

And he said this, not because he was caring for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and what things were put in he was carrying.

Jesus, therefore, said, “Permit her; she has kept it for the day of My embalming,

for you always have the poor with yourselves, and you do not always have Me.”

The Plot to Kill Lazarus

Therefore, a great multitude of the Jews knew that He is there, and they came, not only because of Jesus, but that they may also see Lazarus, whom He raised out of the dead;

and the chief priests took counsel, that they may also kill Lazarus,

because on account of him many of the Jews were going away, and were believing in Jesus.

The Triumphal Entry

(Zechariah 9:9–13; Matthew 21:1–11; Mark 11:1–11; Luke 19:28–40)

On the next day, a great multitude that came to the celebration, having heard that Jesus comes to Jerusalem,

took the branches of the palms, and went forth to meet Him, and were crying, “Hosanna! Blessed [is] He who is coming in the Name of the LORD—the King of Israel”;

and Jesus having found a young donkey sat on it, according as it is written,

“Do not fear, daughter of Zion, behold, your King comes, sitting on a colt of a donkey.”

And His disciples did not know these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were having been written about Him, and these things they did to Him.

The multitude, therefore, who are with Him, were testifying that He called Lazarus out of the tomb, and raised him out of the dead;

because of this the multitude also met Him, because they heard of His having done this sign,

therefore the Pharisees said among themselves, “You see that you do not gain anything, behold, the world went after Him.”

Jesus Predicts His Death

And there were certain Greeks out of those coming up that they may worship in the celebration,

these then came near to Philip, who [is] from Bethsaida of Galilee, and were asking him, saying, “Lord, we wish to see Jesus”;

Philip comes and tells Andrew, and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.

And Jesus responded to them, saying, “The hour has come that the Son of Man may be glorified;

truly, truly, I say to you, if the grain of the wheat, having fallen to the earth, may not die, itself remains alone; and if it may die, it bears much fruit;

he who is cherishing his life will lose it, and he who is hating his life in this world will keep it to continuous life;

if anyone may minister to Me, let him follow Me, and where I am, there My servant will be also; and if anyone may minister to Me—the Father will honor him.

Now My soul has been troubled; and what will I say—Father, save Me from this hour? But because of this I came to this hour;

Father, glorify Your Name.” Therefore there came a voice out of Heaven, “I both glorified, and again I will glorify [it]”;

the multitude, therefore, having stood and heard, were saying that there has been thunder; others said, “A messenger has spoken to Him.”

Jesus answered and said, “This voice has not come because of Me, but because of you;

now is a judgment of this world, now will the ruler of this world be cast forth;

and I, if I may be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to Myself.”

And this He said signifying by what death He was about to die;

the multitude answered Him, “We heard that the Christ remains out of the Law—throughout the age; and how do You say that it is required that the Son of Man be lifted up? Who is this—the Son of Man?”

Therefore Jesus said to them, “Yet a short time is the light with you; walk while you have the light, that darkness may not overtake you; and he who is walking in the darkness has not known where he goes;

while you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.” Jesus spoke these things, and having gone away, He was hid from them,

Belief and Unbelief

yet He, having done so many signs before them, they were not believing in Him,

that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he said, “LORD, who gave credence to our report? And the arm of the LORD—to whom was it revealed?”

Because of this they were not able to believe, that again Isaiah said,

“He has blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart, that they might not see with the eyes, and understand with the heart, and turn, and I might heal them”;

Isaiah said these things when he saw His glory, and spoke of Him.

Still, however, out of the rulers many also believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they were not confessing, that they might not be put out of the synagogue,

for they loved the glory of men more than the glory of God.

And Jesus cried and said, “He who is believing in Me, does not believe in Me, but in Him who sent Me;

and He who is beholding Me, beholds Him who sent Me;

I—light to the world—have come, that everyone who is believing in Me may not remain in the darkness;

and if anyone may hear My sayings, and not believe, I do not judge him, for I did not come that I might judge the world, but that I might save the world.

He who is rejecting Me, and not receiving My sayings, has one who is judging him, the word that I spoke, that will judge him in the last day,

because I did not speak from Myself, but the Father who sent Me, He gave Me a command, what I may say, and what I may speak,

and I have known that His command is continuous life; what, therefore, I speak, according as the Father has said to Me, so I speak.”

Die Salbung in Bethanien

(Matthäus 26,6-13; Markus 14,3-9; Lukas 7,36-50)

Sechs Tage vor dem Osterfeste kam Jesus nach Bethanien, wo Lazarus war, der gestorben gewesen und den Jesus auferweckt hatte.

Daselbst bereiteten sie ihm ein Abendmahl, und Martha diente; Lazarus aber war einer von denen, die mit ihm zu Tische saßen.

Da nahm Maria ein Pfund kostbaren Salböls von echter Narde, und salbte die Füße Jesu, und trocknete seine Füße mit ihren Haaren. Und das Haus ward voll von dem Dufte der Salbe.

Da sagte einer von seinen Jüngern, Judas Iskariot, der ihn darnach verraten sollte:

Warum hat man diese Salbe nicht um dreihundert Denare verkauft, und den Armen gegeben?

Das sagte er aber nicht, weil er sich um die Armen kümmerte, sondern weil er ein Dieb war, und den Beutel hatte, und das trug, was hineingelegt wurde.

Da sprach Jesus: Lasset sie, damit sie es für den Tag meines Begräbnisses bewahre.

Denn die Armen habt ihr allezeit bei euch, mich aber habt ihr nicht allezeit.

Das Komplott, Lazarus zu töten

Da nun eine große Menge Juden erfuhr, dass er da sei, kamen sie nicht um Jesu willen allein, sondern auch um Lazarus zu sehen, den er von den Toten auferweckt hatte.

Die Hohenpriester aber gingen mit dem Gedanken um, auch den Lazarus zu töten,

weil viele Juden um seinetwillen hingingen, und an Jesus glaubten.

Der triumphale Einzug

(Sacharja 9,9-13; Matthäus 21,1-11; Markus 11,1-11; Lukas 19,28-40)

Als aber am folgenden Tage eine große Volksmenge, welche zu dem Feste gekommen war, hörte, dass Jesus nach Jerusalem komme,

nahmen sie Palmzweige und gingen hinaus ihm entgegen, und riefen: Hosianna! Hochgelobt sei, der da kommt im Namen des Herrn, der König Israels!

Und Jesus fand einen jungen Esel, und setzte sich auf denselben, wie geschrieben steht:

Fürchte dich nicht, du Tochter Sion! Siehe, dein König kommt, sitzend auf dem Füllen einer Eselin.

Dies verstanden seine Jünger vorerst nicht; als aber Jesus verherrlicht worden war, da erinnerten sie sich daran, dass dies von ihm geschrieben war, und sie dies an ihm bestätigt hatten.

Das Volk aber, welches bei ihm war, als er den Lazarus aus dem Grabe rief, und von den Toten auferweckte, legte Zeugnis ab.

Darum ging ihm auch das Volk entgegen, weil sie gehört hatten, dass er dieses Wunder getan habe.

Da sprachen die Pharisäer zueinander: Sehet ihr, dass wir nichts ausrichten? Siehe, alle Welt läuft ihm nach.

Das fruchtbare Weizenkorn

Es waren aber unter denen, welche hinaufgekommen waren, um am Feste anzubeten, einige Heiden.

Diese traten zu Philippus, der von Bethsaida in Galiläa war, baten ihn, und sprachen: Herr! wir möchten gern Jesus sehen.

Philippus kam, und sagte es dem Andreas, Andreas hinwiederum und Philippus sagten es Jesus.

Jesus aber antwortete ihnen, und sprach: Die Stunde ist gekommen, dass der Menschensohn verherrlichet werde.

Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch, wenn das Weizenkorn nicht in die Erde fällt, und stirbt,

so bleibt es allein; wenn es aber stirbt, so bringt es viele Frucht! Wer sein Leben liebt, wird es verlieren; und wer sein Leben in dieser Welt hasset, bewahrt es zum ewigen Leben.

Wenn jemand mir dient, folge er mir nach; und wo ich bin, da wird auch mein Diener sein. Wenn jemand mir dienet, wird ihn mein Vater ehren.

Jesus sagt seinen Tod am Kreuz voraus

Jetzt ist meine Seele in Bangigkeit, und was soll ich sagen? Vater, rette mich aus dieser Stunde! Doch darum bin ich in diese Stunde gekommen.

Vater, verherrliche deinen Namen! Da kam eine Stimme vom Himmel: Ich habe verherrlichet, und wieder werde ich verherrlichen!

Das Volk nun, welches dastand, und die Stimme gehört hatte, sagte, es habe gedonnert. Andere sprachen: Ein Engel hat zu ihm geredet!

Jesus antwortete und sprach: Nicht um meinetwillen ist diese Stimme gekommen, sondern um euretwillen.

Jetzt ergeht das Gericht über die Welt, jetzt wird der Fürst dieser Welt hinausgestoßen werden.

Und ich, wenn ich von der Erde erhöhet bin, werde alles an mich ziehen.

(Dies sagte er aber, um anzudeuten, welchen Todes er sterben werde.)

Da antwortete ihm das Volk: Wir haben aus dem Gesetze gehört, dass Christus bleibt in Ewigkeit; wie sagst du denn: Der Menschensohn muss erhöht werden? Wer ist dieser Menschensohn?

Jesus aber antwortete ihnen: Noch eine kurze Zeit ist das Licht unter euch. Wandelt, so lange ihr das Licht habet, damit euch nicht die Finsternis überfalle; und wer in der Finsternis wandelt, weiß nicht, wohin er geht.

So lange ihr das Licht habet, glaubet an das Licht, damit ihr Kinder des Lichtes seiet. Als Jesus dies gesagt hatte, ging er hinweg, und verbarg sich vor ihnen.

Wer hat unserem Bericht geglaubt?

Obwohl er aber so große Wunder vor ihnen getan hatte, glaubten sie nicht an ihn,

damit das Wort des Propheten Isaias erfüllt würde, das er gesprochen: Herr! wer glaubte unsere Verkündigung? Und der Arm des Herrn, wem ist er kund geworden?

Darum konnten sie nicht glauben; denn Isaias hat abermal gesagt:

Er hat ihre Augen verblendet, und ihr Herz verstockt, dass sie mit den Augen nicht sehen, und mit dem Herzen nicht verstehen, und sie sich bekehren, und ich sie heile.

Dies sagte Isaias, da er seine Herrlichkeit sah, und von ihm redete.

Wandeln im Licht

Doch glaubten auch viele von den Vorstehern an ihn; aber der Pharisäer wegen bekannten sie es nicht, damit sie nicht aus der Gemeinschaft gestoßen würden.

Denn sie liebten die Ehre bei den Menschen mehr als die Ehre bei Gott.

Jesus aber rief laut und sprach: Wer an mich glaubt, der glaubt nicht an mich, sondern an den, der mich gesandt hat.

Und wer mich sieht, der sieht den, der mich gesandt hat.

Ich bin als das Licht in die Welt gekommen, damit jeder, der an mich glaubt, nicht in der Finsternis bleibe.

Und wenn jemand meine Worte hört, und nicht bewahrt, ich richte ihn nicht; denn ich bin nicht gekommen, die Welt zu richten, sondern die Welt selig zu machen.

Wer mich verachtet und meine Worte nicht annimmt, der hat einen, welcher ihn richtet. Das Wort, das ich geredet habe, das wird ihn richten am jüngsten Tage.

Denn ich habe nicht von mir selbst geredet, sondern der mich gesandt hat, der Vater, er hat mir das Gebot gegeben, was ich sagen, und was ich reden soll.

Und ich weiß, dass sein Gebot das ewige Leben ist. Was ich also rede, rede ich so, wie es mir der Vater gesagt hat.
